June 2001
Back to Umbria for Liliana to take us to the local bank in Trestina to help us open two bank accounts that would be required for bank transfers from England and running expenses of the house. She also assisted with the application for the necessary codice fiscale cards for both Andrew and I.
October 2001
With the checks complete and no problems identified, the day had come to sign the final documents at the Notaries office at Citta di Castello. This in itself was an experience never to be missed! It really was a time of trust and belief in John and Fabio! Money literally passed through hands!
November 2001
Work started on the house. From Umbria John sent us numerous pictures showing ‘men at work’, walls collapsing (literally) and the footings being created for the extension. A new roof complete with chimney and copper guttering were fitted. Position of windows were changed to maximise the views and space in the house. New ceilings of traditional terracotta tiles and cherry wood beams were installed.
January 2002
It was a very cold but a very clear, bright and sunny day. Outside stairs had completely disappeared, apparently fell down! The space created for the extension was huge! The copper guttering shone in the sunlight…Pleased with progress made, we moved on to a local bar in Mercatale for a cappuccino. Fabio had also made arrangements to meet up with the Geometra who was keen to know who we were! How nice!
